Buy this, not that: Which products really help you save face?
The book Eat This, Not That! offers up food swaps that promise to yield calorie savings that add up. Well, we've got our own little black book and it's filled with products that can save your beauty budget and your good looks.
Buy This: EmerginC's Swift Lift
Not That: Ceramic Skin Smoother from Perricone MD Cosmeceuticals
Perricone's Ceramic Skin Smoother is a pricey product - $75 for one ounce - that didn't produce the expected results, specifically helping to correct "fine lines, wrinkles and skin imperfections." EmerginC's Swift Lift sells at a slightly higher price, $79 at emerginc.com, but came through on its promise to deliver a noticeable - yet temporary - firming and tightening effect. (Gotta love the honesty at EmerginC.) Apply a few drops daily either under makeup or moisturizer, or even mix it in with your liquid foundation for a daily boost.

Colors and Cocktails
I love manicures. It's not the massaging - I've been known to skip that step to save time - or the moisturizing - I have plenty of hand cream at home - it's the allure of perfectly polished nails. Getting a manicure is an instant update and no matter what kind of day I'm having (from bad hair days to bad face days, oh my), a sparkling lacquer makes it all better.
And what better to pair a fresh mani with than a chunky cocktail ring? The ring doesn't have to be "real" - most of mine aren't - but it does have to be big, bold and real-ly stunning. And, of course, it has to complement my polish of choice. If it doesn't, well then, a new manicure is on the horizon...
The $2,030 Manicure
The other day, a shimmering "Lincoln Park at Midnight" mani nearly cost me $2,030.
