VanZelst boasts an extensive and impressive medical background, from her PhD in Natural Medicine to her certification as a Laser Technician who trains physicians on using Candela Lasers. But don't let her credentials fool you; VanZelst is much more than your typical doctor. She expertly pairs her medical background with a commitment to satisfying her clients' aesthetic and wellness needs from the inside out. Not surprisingly, ANEW offers up both typical medical spa services -- think Botox, Laser Hair Reduction and Chemical Peels -- paired with wellness offerings such as Natural Wellness Supplementation.

Licensed by the State of Wisconsin, ANEW Skin and Wellness is located in the Waukesha State Bank Building near the corner of a sophisticated shopping hot spot on Capitol Drive. When I walked through the doors, a cheerful and modern décor welcomed me. Spacious treatment rooms framed the space with a large receptionist desk in the middle. Two women greeted me and offered me coffee or tea before handing me a skin consultation form to fill out.

After I returned the form, I met VanZelst and one of the ANEW nurses in a private room. As we chatted, VanZelst divulged to me her passion for offering consumers alternatives to keep their bodies and skin healthy. As we toured the upscale space, VanZelst gave me the scoop on ANEW's full line of options for women and men, from their most popular treatment, Thermage Skin Tightening to Acne treatments, Spider Vein removal, injectables and beyond. VanZelst went over my form and talked to me about my current skin care regiment as we discussed treatment options that would complement my current routine. She suggested I try a mild chemical peel in the future, but for the present, we agreed that the Express Facial would serve up the quick fix I was after.

For my Express Facial, I went into a candle-lit room where the esthetician explained to me the various steps she would be performing. I slipped off my shoes and lay on a table with my head comfortably resting on a pillow. Using a line of Physician's Choice of Arizona (PCA) products, the esthetician began my facial.

After a cleansing and exfoliation, I felt the warm sensation of a comforting steam on my face. Next, the esthetician applied Decléor Essential Balm, a product whose healing properties, she explained, would ready my skin for pain-free extractions. As promised, she completed my extractions quickly and effortlessly, as my sensitive skin gave silent kudos. Next, she applied a soothing mask and, while it worked its magic, she offered a hand massage. Once she removed the mask, she finished off my facial with a thorough hydration leaving my skin feeling clean and refreshed.
